Industry:
Uitenhage is situated close to Port Elizabeth, and among its main industries are Volkswagen (automobiles) and Good Year (tyres) as well as many other companies such as Gearmax, SKF, Goodyear, Rocklands Poultry, Colibri, to name but a few.
The founding fathers of Uitenhage could not have chosen a better place to settle in their day, there was rich arable land and they had the artesian springs to supply water even in years of drought. Today the town is still ideally situated although the town has become industrialized. it is close enough to the sea both for the residents to enjoy a relaxing day on the beach and for the industries to ship their products. It is also far enough away not to be affected by the salt laden air as the actual coastal towns are.
Volkswagen
An Industrial development was created near to the Volkswagen factory, allowing automotive component manufacturers to construct their manufacturing plants close to the car manufacturer. More recently a Logistic Park was also created so that components could be delivered in as short a time as possible also keeping the parts away from the salt air prevatlent in orthr parts of the Nelson Mandela bay Municipality

Uitenhage is fortunate to have several on the big brand named shops in a vide variety of categories. Such as Pick 'n Pay who have recently opened a second branch, Shoprite and Spar in the supermarket line and all the major Banks are represented. There are Motor dealers for both new and used models.
Uitenhage also has its own weekly newspaper the UD News in which one can find details of what's available in the town and surrounding area.
It also has Conference centers including "The Caledon" in Caledon Street and VJ's Restaurant, Conference Center & B&B in Graaff Reinet Rd.
